Portable Vaporizer

The DaVinci Portable Vaporizer, manufactured by Karma Classic, is new to the vaporizer market, being released in late March 2012.  It has a compact rectangular design and comes in several colors, including black, red, white and silver.  It looks something like a walkie-talkie, with the flexible straw mouthpiece sticking up like an antenna.  The unit is about 4 inches high, 2.3 inches wide and 1 inch deep (about the size of an average Smartphone) and weights less than 6 ounces.  It slips conveniently and discretely into a pocket or purse, and its sturdy construction and quiet operation makes it a stealthy, easily portable unit.

The inert copper heating element inside the DaVinci Portable Vaporizer gives it superior heating performance.  It can reach maximum temperatures in under two minutes and the rapid heat transfer results in higher quality vapor.  The three rechargeable lithium ion batteries offer 13.5 volts which equates to an hour of continuous use before a charge is needed.  The unit will take a full charge in about two hours and can be used while charging, which is always a plus.

The unit is easy to operate and utilizes dual switch function so as to avoid accidental activation while the vaporizer is in transit.  Once the main power switch (located on the bottom right of the unit) is turned on, the customer triggers the heat by depressing a separate button on the face of vaporizer.  The customer can then adjust the temperature to the desired setting using the buttons below the digital display.  The DaVinci Portable Vaporizer has a temperature range of 0 to 465 degrees Fahrenheit.  An indicator light switches from red to green when the unit has reached the desired temperature.  As a safety feature the DaVinci Portable Vaporizer has an automatic shut-off after 10 minutes of idle time.

The fill chamber is accessed by pressing a lid release switch, and the specially designed lid itself helps to keep the blend securely in place.  As an added convenience, the DaVinci Portable Vaporizer also has internal storage that can hold up to three herbal fills, including a separate chamber designed for essential oils.  The straw whip is made of a flexible, durable rubber.  Some vaporizer reviews do note that it can taint the taste of the vapor, giving it a slight chemical flavor.  Also, due to the short length of the straw, some vaporizer reviews note that the vapor tends to be rather warm and suggest that, for those preferring a cooler mouth feel, a short length of silicone tubing be attached to the straw and mouthpiece to allow the vapor to cool a bit more.

Overall, the Davinci  Portable Vaporizer produces a consistent, good quality vapor.  However, some vaporizer reviews note that at higher temperatures (near the maximum of 465 degrees), the taste of the vapor tends to become less pleasant and the quality becomes diminished.  Also, as the battery life wears down, the vapor quality tends to decrease slightly.

The DaVinci Portable Vaporizer currently carries a price tag in the mid-two hundred dollar range.  It comes with a 2 year standard manufacturer’s warranty, subject to normal use.  Generally, the package includes accessories such as a metal storage case, cleaning tools, extra screens and tip shields for sharing with multiple users.  As a newbie on the market, the DaVinci Portable Vaporizer may need to have some minor kinks worked out, but for the most part, it is definitely a contender in the portable arena and should not be overlooked.
